CATALYST, Community Action on Tobacco evALuation sYSTem

More Voices Inc. contracted with the Washington State Tobacco Prevention and Control Program to assist in the development and support of a web-based program and evaluation monitoring system. Ongoing work includes data analysis, stakeholder training and technical assistance for modifications and enhancements.

Local Tobacco Prevention and Control Activity Summaries

The goal of this project is to take existing data on local tobacco prevention and control efforts and create concise one-page summaries that easily illustrate what type of activities are being conducted to prevent tobacco use in communities. This project is conducted annually for the Washington State Tobacco Prevention and Control Program.


Community Success Stories

Generated by reviewing data in the web-based reporting system, CATALYST, and by working closely with local grantees, these one-page summaries document the successes local communities are having with their tobacco prevention and control programs. Each summary describes a specific project for a given year and highlights what it took to achieve success. This project is conducted annually for the Washington State Tobacco Prevention and Control Program.

 

Local Tobacco-free Environments Policy Outcome Report

This project began by reviewing narrative data in the web-based reporting system, CATALYST, to generate one-page summaries on local tobacco prevention policy outcomes. The project has evolved into a statewide policy outcome report documenting local tobacco-free environments in the areas of hospital campuses, college campuses, multi-unit housing, city and county parks, farmers markets and government property. This project is conducted annually for the Washington State Tobacco Prevention and Control Program.


County Level Youth Survey Results

These reports describe county-level youth data results related to tobacco prevention and control efforts. The reports are updated every other year with the findings from the previous year of data. Current results include data from 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008.


Survey Administration Support

More Voices is contracted to provide support in the administration of the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey and the School Health Education Profiles (Profiles) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Profiles is a set of surveys assessing school health policies and programs. Profiles are conducted biennially among middle and high school principals and lead health education teachers. The Healthy Youth Survey is conducted biennially among middle and high school youth.


School Health Education Profiles Reports

This set of reports provides results from multiple years of Profiles data documenting tobacco-free school policies and prevention education and training. Each report provides data for a specific Educational Service District in Washington State.

Commute Trip Reduction Feasibility Study

More Voices contracted with the Washington State Department of Ecology to study the feasibility of using Flexcar, a nationally based carsharing company, as part of its commute trip reduction effort.

Conducting a Community Needs Assessment Process Guide

More Voices was contracted to develop a needs assessment and strategic planning process guide to support the work of the Washington State Prevention-Intervention-Treatment-Aftercare Network of county contractors. Additionally, we supported the design and implementation of data and process trainings for these contractors.

Community-level Tobacco Cessation Activity Summaries

Using existing data, these one-page summaries highlight local efforts in tobacco cessation including; which type of cessation activities each community is conducting, local call rates to the state quit line, quit line fax referrals generated by local provider outreach and the amount and type of resources allocated to the cessation effort.

Statewide Strategic Planning for Local Stakeholders

The goal of this project was to train all community grantees of the Washington State Tobacco Prevention and Control program how to develop a three-year strategic plan for their local efforts. We provided training in strategic planning, community organizing, policy development and evaluation. The project included training, technical assistance and ongoing data collection and data management for local strategic plan evaluation plans.


O2 Magazine Evaluation

O2 magazine was developed as part of statewide efforts to increase youth involvement in tobacco prevention coalition activities across Washington State.  Describing itself as a youth-driven publication, it featured artwork and writing by high-school youth. After three years of publication, MVI conducted an evaluation of the magazine to recommend future directions.  The evaluation included surveying youth in coalitions as well as youth leaders, interviewing key staff, and providing recommendations for changes.

 

First Steps Evaluation

In this project More Voices was contracted to assist in the evaluation of the First Steps program for low-income pregnant women. Tasks included project design, survey design and administration, survey tracking and follow-up and delivering the data to the evaluation coordinator for the tobacco prevention and control program.
